Hair | It's time to go...
Man oh man. I've literally HAD IT with my hair. If you've watched my previous vlogs, you know that this has been a long time coming. I haven't been happy with my mane for months. With the heavy breakage in the front section of my head (my leave out when I used to wear sew-ins) and the lack of variety in styles, I'm yearning to grab some clippers and shave it all off.
Hold on. I have a plan.
I think it's best for me to shave my hair off and start from scratch. When I originally went natural I didn't do a big chop, but rather cut off the stiff pieces of hair that didn't coil when using leave-in conditioner. I did this all around my head, except for my leave-out portion because I would've looked stupid. 1 year later and look even stupider. It's literally been breaking off since I've moved to LA... No growth. No progress. And while the back and sides of my hair are thriving for the hair gawds, my leave-out is in desperate need for some TLC. I'm thinking that the heavy manipulation (i.e. flat twisting my hair every night) and not cutting it correctly from jump has lead me to this point. Hence why I've decided to rock a fade.
Now to the plan...
I'm going on vacation in a few weeks and will have my friend put poetic justice braids in my hair. I'm going to use the next month and a half to get my body on point (I can't be flabby AND bald). Sooooooo, this brings me to at least the beginning of October. I'll take the braids out, assess my hair to see if I had any major growth, and then decide how low I should cut it.
80 YouTube big chop testimonials later, I'm honestly not worried about taking clippers to my scalp. I don't want to be bogged down with damaged, brittle and thin hair – it's not that serious. I'll be that much closer to having a full head of healthy hair.
If you check out my instagram, you'll see that I've never really been attached to my crown. I've had my hair buzzed completely on the sides, pixy cuts, weaves, braids and color throughout the years. I'm definitely not trying to attach myself to a mediocre fro. Health over length any day.
I'll definitely keep you posted, and will be sure to document when I do my first real big chop.
In the meantime, I'm heading to the gym and looking for a dope pair of door knockers...
