Atlanta - S1, E2
Alfred and Earn are at the police station wondering if the disheveled fan from Epi 1 is alive.
Alfred is released from jail, bailed out by Darius, but Earn awaits his saving grace. Earn calls his baby's mom, Van, to bail him out of jail, which annoyed me to the core. He just reminds me of those mama's boys who are crazy irresponsible, and always looking for a "strong black woman" to mooch off of. I love DG, but he plays this role all too well; so much so, that I'm sitting here annoyed AF - wanting to punch him in the throat.
Once released, Alfred / Paperboy gets so much love for "blowing a nigga's brains out," except, his body language indicates that he really didn't. You see, Alfred is like those type of dudes in the hood who's a good person, but always gets caught up in the most unfortunate situations. He tries to do right, but gets tried way too often to stay out of trouble. Like, a gentle giant with an unwarranted amount of street cred.
Meanwhile, Earn is still in the holding cell waiting for someone to come to his rescue, encountering all of the weirdness that county jail has to offer.
An inmate, who's clearly off his rocker, is abused by a white officer after he spits toilet water on him. Whether it was a coincidence that the white officer was standing directly in front of him, or not, is up for interpretation. But, the violent nature and disregard for an inmate's life that the white cop displayed is all too familiar.
Paperboy roams his projects and spots some neighborhood kids pretending to shoot guns, killing each other, just as he "did." He walks up to them to let them know that shooting people isn't cool. This touching moment is ruined when the mother of the young boy with a toy gun begins to fangirl over Paperboy's radio single, and demands that the entire family take a selfie with the gangster rapper.
Back in jail, two ex lovers, a transexual, black woman and a black man have a funny convo about missing each other in the holding cell. The other inmates overhear the conversation and call the black man "gay" for loving a transexual woman, but not realizing that she was born a man.
Switching back to Paperboy, and a stranger in a batman mask awkwardly knocks on his door, asking for the rapper, adding a level of paranoia to the friends. Darius let's him know that he lives there, and ol' dude hilariously jogs off into the projects! The block is certainly hot, and Paperboy better watch his back.
I swear this is Snow on the Bluff, part 2.
Just as the episode comes to a close and the inmates are about to get booked for an overnight stay, Earn is finally released. By who, you ask? None other than his baby's mother, Van. Because this nigga is clearly incapable of doing anything for himself. *rolls eyes*
